Visit Belgrade, and not just for the Pasta!
Did you know that there are Vapiano restaurants in Belgrade too? In our eyes, that's yet another reason to visit the Serbian capital. But what other reasons are there? Plenty! Here are our highlights.
Trust us when we say that Belgrade has something for everyone! You really need to see it with your own eyes, starting with the city’s dramatic location right at the intersection of the river Sava and the mighty Danube. Right there, perched on a hill, you will find the fortified city, surrounded by mighty defensive towers, which has survived the many battles of the past 500 years. Inside the fortress walls you will find the beautiful Kalemegdan Park. If you want to get a real feel for the city, or enjoy a nice relaxing city stroll, this is the ideal place to start!
You may also be tempted by the bohemian Skadarlija quarter with its cobblestoned alleyways. Here, you can find many wonderful galleries, souvenir shops and pretty cafés. And, you’ll be happy to know that Belgrade is a fantastic place to party, because the former industrial district of Savamala is full of great nightlife, and you should definitely go to the Splavs – the floating river clubs on the banks of the Sava and Danube where you can rent out rafts, walk around the floating pontoons and eat, drink and dance – whether it’s to Balkan beats or Techno – you decide!
Shopping and dining out in Belgrade
Belgrade is also a great location for the shopping queens amongst you. You will find everything your heart desires either on the main street – Knez Mihajlova – or in the many side streets. The newly opened and very trendy shopping mall – Rajiceva offers an architectural contrast to the surrounding beautifully restored Wilhelminian style buildings, with its a modern steel and glass façades. All that shopping is bound to work up an appetite, though! Look no further than our brand new Vapiano restaurant which boasts 222 seats, including 48 lounge seats which is located right in the heart of the shopping district. From our terrace, you have a wonderful view of the shopping street and inside you will find our usual pasta stations, pizza and salad station and of course, bar!
Belgrade is filled with the spirit of optimism, and, as such, is often compared with the Berlin of the 90s. On the banks of the Sava, you will find a new district filled with luxurious skyscrapers, similar to Hamburg’s Hafencity, whilst in the older quarters new creative spaces are springing up. One such space is Mikser House, here you can see the work of young, up and coming designers, enjoy a drink in the café, find unique souvenirs, enjoy theatrical production. There’s also a festival here in the Spring!
By the way, it’s really easy to get around Belgrade. Either, take your time to explore on foot, or take the tram, which is a relaxed and cheap way to travel around and see the sights! So, there really isn’t any reason why you shouldn’t book that trip to Belgrade, right now!
We look forward to seeing you at the new Vapiano there!
