Our five favourite cities for Christmas shopping

Love shopping? Love Christmas? Why not combine the two and take an unforgettable trip to one of our top five Christmas shopping cities. The stores are great, the people are great and the festive atmosphere is unbeatable. Happy holidays!

The beginning of advent signals the countdown to Christmas and it’s time to start shopping for presents. But where to head? It’s well known that New York, Paris and London offer everything the shopaholic’s heart desires, but what about Amsterdam and Stockholm? Today, our Vapiano teams from around the world reveal why, as well as being a shopper’s paradise, these cities have such a unique festive feel to them.

New York – bargain hunting in the Big Apple

The Big Apple is renowned for being the world’s top shopping hotspot, especially at Christmas. Bargain hunters head to the Century 21 department store at One World Trade Center, where designer fashion and big brand names are heavily discounted. And don’t forget to swing by Barneys’ Flagship Store in Madison Avenue. Ever year a celebrity is nominated to design the holiday window display. Even Lady Gaga has had a go!

Paris – Christmas shopping on the Champs-Élysées

Paris, the city of love, is always worth a visit at Christmas. Head to one of the many Christmas markets scattered around the city. There are all kinds of unique little stalls so you’re sure to find the perfect present. Eugenie is our Marketing & Communications Director for Vapiano in France and her favourite festive hang-out is the Champs-Élysées market, where you can soak up the festive atmosphere under the twinkling Christmas lights.Or head to Bercy Village to peruse a range of independent stores arranged around a pretty paved courtyard.

London – ice skating on the banks of the Thames

London calling! Tanja, our Marketing & Operations Advisor for Vapiano in the United Kingdom, has a secret spot for Christmas shoppers visiting London. The Southbank Centre Winter Festival is located next to the river Thames with breathtaking views of the London Eye. As well as an outdoor ice rink, there are hundreds of stalls selling food and gifts. Christmas crackers are a fun gift to take home, but remember they can’t be transported in hand luggage. For more presents, head either to the luxury department store Liberty or to the Westfield Shopping Centre where you can wander around a whopping 350 stores. It’s a shopaholic’s paradise! Or take a trip to Portobello Market to soak up more of London’s unique atmosphere.

Amsterdam – Dutch biscuits under Christmas lights

Christmas shopping in Amsterdam is a magical experience. Throughout December the Dutch capital is bathed in fairy lights. Our Marketing Coordinator Kim loves nothing more than strolling around the Rijksmuseum Christmas market and picking up some traditional Kruidnoten biscuits to nibble on with a creamy hot chocolate.  Still looking for gifts for your loved ones? Head to the Bijenkorf department store for inspiration. Or hunt out vintage pieces in the tiny boutiques on De 9 Straatjes.

Stockholm – full of Scandinavian charm

Stockholm, here we come! Foodies will love the famous Swedish Köttbullar and gingerbread at the Skansen Christmas Market and the market in the Old Town. Wash them down with a piping hot mug of “Glögg”, a mulled wine that’s traditionally served with blanched almonds and raisins. Charlotte, our Marketing & Communications Manager, recommends browsing the museum shop at Moderna Museet for gifts. Or if second-hand and vintage is more your style, take a trip to the SoFo quarter in the city’s south.

As you can see, there’s lots happening wherever you’re headed this Christmas. Whether New York, Paris, London, Amsterdam or Stockholm, we hope the tips from our Vapiano teams help make your Christmas shopping a memorable experience. Happy holidays!
