The highlights of 2019

Welcome 2019! The New Year is packed with highlights you can’t afford to miss. We’ve compiled a list of the big ones – from long-awaited new series to delicious Vapiano Specials and even a royal baby.

Happy New Year! How’s the head? Lots of people spend the first new days of January planning the year ahead. We’ve compiled a list of the biggest events in 2019 to get you started. Diaries at the ready!

1. New year, new Specials
Our latest Specials were created by Vapianisti all over the world and are available until 14 January. If you still haven’t sampled them, you’ll need to get a wiggle on before the first Specials of 2019 are launched on 15 January. And we’re not giving anything away until then!

2. Baby, baby
It was only last April that Prince William and his wife Kate welcomed Prince Louis to their family, but the next royal baby is already on the way. William’s younger brother Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, are expecting their first child in March.

3. Singing Wolverine
We all know Hugh Jackman as the mutant Wolverine in X-Men, but did you know he’s actually a trained musical actor? He’s been awarded numerous prices for his performances, including the starring role in “Les Misérables”. And he’s going on tour in 2019.

4. Hat trick hopes
After a disastrous early exit from last year’s FIFA World Cup, Germany’s men are looking to the women’s squad for a better result in 2019. The FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off on 7 June in France, where Germany hopes to repeat their tournament wins of 2003 and 2007.

5. Dark, darker, darkest
“Dark”, the first ever German Netflix series, has drawn international acclaim for its nail-biting plot, slick production and brilliant acting. Viewers were left on the edge of their seats after the first instalment of the time-travel thriller, but can look forward to a second series in 2019.

6. Eeny, meeny, miny, moe
Are they in or are they out? Two years on and Brits are still wrangling over whether or not to leave the EU. If everything goes according to plan, Brexit is scheduled for 29 March and will go down as one of the most momentous decisions in the United Kingdom’s history.

7. Bling bling
All eyes will be on Los Angeles on 24 February as Hollywood prepares to host the 91st Academy Awards. Jimmy Kimmel has hosted the glittering ceremony for the last two years. We are wondering which celebrity will replace him this year.

8. Hakuna matata

This iconic 1990s movie was a firm favourite of kids all over the globe, and the musical has just as many fans. And now Disney’s “The Lion King” is set to be launched as a live-action remake. The release date is July 2019. Bring some tissues.

9. Wait, you must
Another exciting movie release is scheduled for late 2019. Star Wars Episode IX premieres on 19 December. Until then all we can do is sit and wait. And pass the time with a cup of “I Am Your Father” tea, available at Vapiano since 2018.

10. A century of girl power
19 January 2019 marks one hundred years since women won the vote in Germany. Finland was the first country in Europe to extend voting rights to women in 1906. Liechtenstein was the last, where women have only been able to vote since – wait for it – 1984.

11. Heir to the throne
The final series of “Game of Thrones” is scheduled for 2019. While fantasy fans the world over are already in mourning that the cult show is coming to an end, we’re left wondering who will be upon the Iron Throne when it’s all over?

12. Germany’s “Oscars”

Germany’s booming film industry continues to make waves internationally, and the annual Golden Camera awards ceremony is one of the biggest events of the year. We look forward to seeing which celebrities will be working the red carpet, and who’ll go home with one of the coveted gold-plated awards.

13. Down time
Next year promises lots of well-deserved time off. With all the public holidays, taking two weeks off from 15-30 April 2019 could give you up to nineteen days out of the office instead of ten! December is just as good with Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day all falling on weekdays.

What are you most looking forward to in 2019? Happy New Year from everyone at Vapiano.
