We love Bogotá – a new Vapiano at the heart of Columbia

South America’s second largest city Bogotá celebrated a premiere when Columbia’s first Vapiano opened its doors in early June. But as well serving up your favourite pasta and pizza dishes, Bogotá has a host of cultural treats in store. Visitors can choose from some sixty museums and twenty theatres. Our tip: find out what role gold played in the country’s chequered history and where the term “Eldorado” originated at “Museo del Oro”.
Not a fan of museums? Shopaholics should head to the old town’s pedestrian precinct. After you’re maxed your credit card, relax in the Simón Bolívar Park – one of the world’s largest urban green spaces. Or ride the cable car up Mount Monserrate to discover cafes, restaurants and picturesque hiking trails with panoramic views.
The city has invested hugely in safe cycling over the past few years so why not discover Bogotá by bike? Every Sunday and holiday, the city of seven million blocks off roads to motorised vehicles and allows cyclists, runners and skaters to enjoy 120 km of car-free streets. Around 30% of the population use Bogotá’s weekly “ciclovías”.
Bogotá – a lively capital city
Columbia’s capital is built on the Bogotá Savanna plateau in the Andes some 2460m above sea level, making our new restaurant the highest Vapiano in the world! Find us at the heart of the “pink zone” or “zona T” as it’s commonly referred to due to the T-shaped pedestrian area in the middle. It’s a bustling quarter packed with shops and eateries. The new Vapiano restaurant covers four floors and has space for over 240 guests.
South America is famous for its colourful celebrations and Bogotá is no exception. Soak up the atmosphere at one of many festivals held in the El Tunal Park. Two of the most famous include the “Festival de Rock al Parque” and the “Festival de Salsa al Parque”. Let’s dance!
