We’ve found the design markets closest to you!
Design markets are full of handmade treasures, which means that they are the perfect hunting grounds for custom, unique gifts in the run up to Christmas. We’ve found those closest to you!
There’s nothing run of the mill on offer at these design markets. Here, DIY and handmade are magic words – a special place where you can find unique accessories for your home, clothing, original jewelry, beautiful wooden and leather goods and, of course, prints, cards and decorations – all lovingly handcrafted. What’s more, the artists often sell their creations from their own stalls and are more than happy to tell you everything you need to know about the treasures on sale.
In the company of Bremen’s Town Musicians
In the middle of the beautiful old town of Bremen, a design market run by “Deine EigenART” (or “Your own art”) waits for you. The market opens its doors on December 10th at 11am in the CityLab in Lloydhof, and you can browse, try on clothes and shop all day, until 5pm. Admission costs just 5 euros. It’s always worth taking a trip to this enchanting Hanseatic city on the Weser, and, as luck would have it, there’s a Vapiano restaurant just around the corner, perfect for hungry shoppers!
Festive designs in Hannover
Hannover also has a design market taking place before Christmas. The Expowal has handmade in its DNA! The event, called “Designachten” or “Design Nights” takes place in the conference centre or Messegelände, on Saturday, 9th December from 12 – 8pm and on Sunday, 10th of December from 11am to 7pm, this one also costs 5 euros to get in.
StijlMarkt in Freiburg in Breisgau
That very same weekend, the people of Freiburg can also go hunting for gifts on the Mensa Rempartstrasse in the city centre. The Stijlmarkt will be waiting there for you on Saturday, 9th and Sunday, 10th from 11am to 6pm, offering records for the vinyl player and, of course, something for you too.
Holy Shit Shopping in Hamburg and Berlin
The mother of all design markets, Holy Shit Shopping, is now so big that it takes place in Hamburg’s exhibition halls. Anyone who remembers the lengthy queues from the early years will probably appreciate the event’s new location, but might miss the characteristic homely atmosphere of the smaller venue. The fact is, the range of products available is ginormous, not least because there are professional traders here too. Those of you who Christmas shop in a strategic way will probably find gifts for everyone here in one day – and, if not, at least you’ll have yourself covered!
The event takes place in Hamburg’s exhibition halls or Messegelände, in hall B1 on the 9th and 10th of December from 12-8pm. The event takes place the following weekend, on the 16th and 17th of December, in Berlin in Treptow.
